Though please ask your President to be a little bit less unilateralist, as he is isolating an entire country that had the sympathy of the whole world when the attacks happened, and alienating the globe in 12 months is quite an achievement, even for an achiever like Dubya!
Sorry, but I would hate him to sacrifice more Americans on the altar of political expediency.

Thanks for those words. There is nothing like living in Charlotte NC and being told to get out of the city and go home. But still in leu of those massive attacks we still stand strong. But thanks for the words.

Today has been about remembrance, reflection, and commerating events of last year. May our thoughts and prayers be with the victims of 9/11/2001 and their families. But let tomorrows prayer be one of hope, that those children left without fathers, wives without husbands, fathers without sons, will become stronger and more resolute as a result, and that they can stop us from facing such carnage ever again

There is a reason this place rocks. Great people come here.
People who actually think, and consider the issues and the consequences of any actions by our country or any other country. Keep up the great work people, we care.

And Brit, I couldn't agree more:
Though please ask your President to be a little bit less unilateralist, as he is isolating an entire country that had the sympathy of the whole world when the attacks happened, and alienating the globe in 12 months is quite an achievement, even for an achiever like Dubya!

He is the "appointed" President, but we have to follow his lead, until it becomes obvious he's simply too stupid to lead us. It hasn't quite gotten to that point yet. Don't worry, we'll figure it out. I'm a vet and I sure don't want to see our sons and daughters dying on the streets of Baghdad for no good reason, and I sure see no good reason so far.
Rest assured, the American public has not been shown why we should or could change the leadership in Iraq. The feeling here is like that in much of the world. Sure, Sadamm is an asshole, who are we to go in and impose our desires on a soverign nation, even a nation that has violated lots of United Nations sanctions? It just doesn't figure for lots of us.
If Dubya goes ahead without the approval of the United Nations or at least the sanction of our congress he's going to be history. This action is stupid and it's obvious thousands of American soldiers will die in the streets of Baghdad. For no good reason.
If he kills even one American soldier in Iraq I will be the first in the streets demonstrating against him. I'm a Viet vet. I did what I had to do. I didn't kill anyone, but I was ready to be killed. I did it for flag and country, I didn't do it to maintain the flow of oil into the tanks of SUV's.
Our President is dancing on the edge of credibility. He seems to have found a place in the last few days that some can support. I'm not so sure.
I just don't trust the guy. It's obvious he's stupid. Let's hope he doesen't get us into major trouble, he'll be gone in two years.

hello all, hope i'm still welcome after such a long absence..., (ok, i've managed to lurk once in a while)
agree w/wd12 - think dubya is a dolt! am also a vet who will protest his oil hunt in iraq or anywhere else.
thanks to all for the genuine concern for us here in the states & let's hope that the war mongers don't get their way or their oil. still finding it hard to believe he & his gang are in power. they certainly can't be called leaders - perhaps "robber barons"?
for those interested - i'm still doing the non-profit thing so income is low but spirits & sexual activity are highest!!! have many true accounts to relate & will do so asap. -S

Looks like Sadamm has once again out-manuvered us. He agreed today to let the inspectors back in. He took it to the edge and then capitulated.
This whole thing is a fucking mess. Get out of your SUV's people! There are plenty of cars out there that get 40-50 mpg. Thinking you need a three ton truck to take your kids to school really demonstrates why so many in the world hate us. The US uses fully 40% of the worlds resources in order to maintain our lifestyle. THEY AREN'T WRONG!
Bush campaigned on the idea that we could take whatever we could afford to buy, screw the rest of the world. Well, we see how well that's worked! Traditional friends are turning their backs on us, world opinion is well turned against us when we really do have a genuine fight on our hands, lots of the American people really don't believe in what our government is doing.
G Dubya, is bagging the guy your father failed to bring to justice really worth the lives of our sons and daughters? I THINK NOT!
It's no surprise the US is being dissed all around the world. Arrogance, your name is the United States.
Having said all of the above, I love my country. I love the people who built it. I served in the military at a VERY difficult time and I'm proud of my service.
When I think we're wrong I am willing to speak out. In my opinion, our current administration is simple frightening. It's like they have no concept of the "big picture."
Is this off-topic, maybe, but when I see what is going on I wet my pants in stark, abject fear.

Scout, how nice, I couldn't agree more
"the space we have for what we want is filled with what we have"
It reminds me of things I learned in a book that changed my life. The book went out of print, so I scanned it and put it on a web site. I totally respect the author and his rights to the work, it's been there a while and he hasn't seemed to have found it or objected to me putting it on the Internet. If he wants me to remove it, I sure will. I hope he wants me to continue to make it available, you and anyone else can find it here:
http://www.intertrader.net/hp.htm
The book is "The Quiet Answer" and the author is Hugh Prather. It's the whole book. Every word. I would never have done anything like this unless I thought this wonderful work should be shared to the whole world. It's beautiful and uplifting.
Like I said, it changed my life.
Want only what you have and be happy. That is NOT a negative thing.
