I have a problem with playing audio cds on Windows Media Player. At the moment, they're playing on WMP 9, but I want to change them to play on WMP 7. I've gone into the options of WMP 7, and made all formats the primary use - ie - ticking all the boxes. However, the audio disc still plays on WMP 9. Does anybody know how I can make them play on WMP 7?
Any help would be much appreciated.

You need to change the default Windows handler for audio CDs. I would do it by editing the registry by hand but that can be very dangerous unless you are an expert. A safer way is to open Windows Explorer and select menu options Tools - Folder Options and then tab File Types. Select Audio CD (they are alphabetical, so it will be at the top) and clich the Advanced button. If you have both versions of Media Player installed, with luck they may be listed as different options in the list box. Click the one you want to use and then click the Set Default button.
If the one you want is not listed, you need to select Play or whichever is shown in bold (the current default) and edit that to use the application that you want. Safter might be to set up a new action like MyPlay and set that up to use the version you want. Then select it and click Set Default.
Hope that helps and you don't mangle things so much that nothing plays!!!

Of course, the curious amongst us will want to know why?...
WMP v9 seems OK to me. Specialist problem?

I'm communicating with Grant by e-mail to try to investigate and solve this and also the other problem with the webcam. WMP 9 works for others, so I am trying to diagnose if it is an old beta version, whether there was a problem with installation, how it co-exists with version 7 etc...
If it gets fixed, maybe we'll tell you to satisfy your curiosity, bspider!

For Boris's (bspider's) benefit, here is the solution. WMP had either not installed fully or not installed correctly. After Grant re-installed it, it played CDs.
