Okay, we already know Bush is going after (fake) rape porn. Now that the target is being expanded, I wonder who's next on the list...

U.S. Plans to Escalate Porn Fight
Justice Department hire of a veteran prosecutor answers criticism from Christian conservatives who have long sought a crackdown on smut.

By Richard B. Schmitt, Times Staff Writer

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department has quietly installed an outspoken anti-pornography advocate in a senior position in its criminal division, as part of an effort to jump-start obscenity prosecutions.

The Bush administration's election-year move follows three years of heat from the Christian right, which believes that Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft, a longtime friend and ally, has fallen down on the job when it comes to fighting smut.

Now, the appointment of a tough new cop on the porn beat and other recent moves by the department to bolster obscenity cases are galvanizing conservatives, while leaving representatives of the adult-entertainment industry to wonder whether they have become a political football.

Officials said the appointment of Bruce A. Taylor, who worked in the department during the heyday of its anti-porn efforts in the late 1980s and early '90s, shows that Justice is serious about cracking down on porn after what critics called lax enforcement by the Clinton administration...

This administration kowtows to religious fundamentalists and the radical right more than any in history, including Reagan. They would suppress legitimate entertainment, deny gays their rights, block advancements in medicine that involves stem cells, deny women their rightful choice, all in the name of "family values" and their twisted view of morality. They're fanatics and ideologues. As an American, I'm very troubled by the direction in which they're leading my country.

As an Englishman, I'm very troubled by the direction in which they're leading your country too - as it affects many (most? all?) other countries too.

Boris.

This is the main reason I never end up voting Republican for president (I'm registered "NPA" - No Party Affiliation). They can never nominate a moderate. Every time, without fail, they nominate a suck up to the religious fanatics.

(Insert onward Christian Soldiers here)
You mean the US isn't a theocracy? Oh that's right...Seperation of Church and State....I think that Bush has forgotten this aspect....along with that great legislative body, the Supreme Court.....

I was reminded of this recently with the gay marriage issues.
Trying to lobby for a Const. Amendment banning all but HetroSexual unions.
Of course it's my personal opinion...(and only an opionion) that Marriage is a "Religious" institution and not a "Legal" one. Hence, if it were up to me, marriage would be no more or no less than other religious ceremonies: Baptisms, Barmitzvahs, etc...Don't get me wrong. I am not opposed to any of these religious celebrations..But they should remain in the non-secular sphere, not the legal one...
But I will be the first to admit that I'm a bit radical on that point.
Once again, why is this an issue. Bush has consistantly catered to the Fund. Christian right and moved the country farher in that direction. He and the Rep. right seek to move the coutnry closer and closer to a moral theocracy...One that ignores the individual rights of others. Not to mention his great forign polipcy ...sorry policy..although, polipcy is more accurate..He and COLAN bowles...OK, enough toilet metaphores for Bush and his cronies..

Bush's forign policy is attrocious. He has alianated many US allies and doesn't care. He has the "Cowboy" mentality of we can "Kick ass and take names". Iraq is FAR Worse off now than it was under Sadam. Not that I am a fan of Sadam's AT ALL. The country is splintered between Shi'a and Sunni's for control with a small Christain minority in Mosul. All jockying for power. Under Sadam, Sadam was the primary terrorist...Now it has become a bedrock for "Open Houes" on all terrorist factions, further destabalizing the region. Bush's reaction has forced the hand in that the US MUST maintain an extended commitment in the region for years to come in order to prevent a blood bath/civil war. Whilst this is going on, it further erodes US relations with the Arab world the longer US soldiers remain present. It's a complete disaster. Had he follwed the UN's recomendations then other countries would have shared the responsibility and it would not look so much like a US Imperialist takeover....(point in Question: Bush and his cronies WANT THE MIDDLE EAST and it's oil revenues and it's Geo Political position...
Ok, since I've gone this far...I might as well state my position on Middle Eastern Politics..Which will probaly piss most people off: Sorry..No nead to offend and remember....It's only an opinion..
My opinion on the US involvement in the middle east.PISS OFF and get out..
I'm Bathist in the orthox core: Arab lands for the Arab peoples. I'm an Arab Nationalist. Therefore my claim is that Middle East is NOT for the Imperialist powers...If you can't secure your own oil design another method of energy or look elsehwere....The United States needs to focus on the United States. I think many Americans are seeing this and that's why support for Kerry has grown. Too many jobs have been lost..Crime increasing,etc...
Oh well, I'll definatley get off my soap box now.

Well, you REALLY went off there. The mitigating factor is that you are 99.9% correct.
