Sandra Dee, American teen idol of the early 60s and star of such movie gems as "Gidget" and "Tammy and the Doctor", passed away yesterday from kidney disease. She was 62. She was married briefly to singer Bobby Darin.
I'm deeply saddened, Sandra, to hear of your passing. To me, you'll forever be that bouncy young blonde with the squeaky-clean image and girl-next-door charm. You were a few years younger than I am. You represented a simpler time, before the Vietnam War and before we all lost our innocence forever. You jarred me into sudden awareness of my own mortality. In a pitifully small handful of years there will be none of us left who remember that sweet time. Thank you, my darling, for the permanent, lovely image you've left on my memory.
