I've probably used some of the same colours. The pink colours were chosen by keeping the same hue as the main background colour, and varying the saturation and brightness. This results in a coherent colour scheme.

Some of the other colours are still rather arbitrary, such as the blue links and the pale blue window areas, but I might leave them as they are.

I think the blue with the magenta theme works well. Plus people are used to seeing blue links, so I would leave it as you propose.
