Something has changed on the reply form. If you click the smiley in the toolbar it used to drop down. Now the menu appears far down on the right hand side and can easily be scrolled so it does not appear at all.

A second minor issue is that if you start a reply in rich text, press the back button to check on something, and then move forward again, the half completed message re-appears, but you can't edit it further.

WT,

I have not changed anything recently - Windows NT with SP2 - but it may have 'remembered' some ill-considered mouse movement that I made some time ago - who knows. To be absolutely specific, there is a smiley with a down-arrow to its right - on the toolbar above where I am typing now. When I press the down arrow, a box appears with a title "Generic Smileys" and it is almost off screen - not dropped down from the toolbar.

I'm flummoxed. I don't have and have never had anything that could remotely be described as a 'smiley in the toolbar'. I press the reply botton at the bottom of the thread and get a new window (I am typing in it at the moment). Assuming you're not talking about the IE toolbar (in which case you have installed something, probably spyware, that is unrelated to this site and gives general smileys), the reply has a box for title and under that is a panel with fields for font - size - color. Under that are icons for bold - italic - underline - ... - wrap. Next line down are two radio buttons for Guided mode and Enhanced mode (click Guided if you want to see the tools described above). Then this typing window. To its right is a panel of common smileys, with a link More that opens a new window. Under the typing window are links for Increase Size - Decrease size then a panel of post icons then the Submit Reply - Preview Post buttons. There's more below that starting with Additional Options but that's probably enough.

Where in that is what you are describing?

WT,

I think I know what it is - I used to use an old version of Mozilla and I recently chaged to the latest Firefox beta - I guess the rich editing is done by the browser and varies a bit.

Yes, that sounds like it. Browsers do all the local formatting - the HTML is only a mark up language, by design, giving the browser guidance on what to do. Always suspect the changes! Good luck with re-arranging things to your preferences or, if that is not possible, I hope that you soon get used to the new view... :)

I was starting to think of taking a screen capture and attaching it but that would have taken some work, so I'm glad it wasn't needed.
