Hi Sky,

This is probably off topic here, but can you explain the changes on the board. I understand the multiple quotes, but how about the "add infraction to..." Is that to alert you spam posts or so? Ban people on our request? A ban level... reminds me of the good old #WS IRC days. Are there more changes that I didn't see?

Ger.
PS... When is the next Webcam?

Hi Ger,

The next Web Cam is on Sunday, December 3rd at 3 PM GMT or 10 AM EST with wonderful and lovely JoMay as the Star of it.

And you thought I didn't read your post.

Ger,

I suspect that the [I]Infraction button is appearing only for moderators. I didn't dare click it in case I do something horrible to the user concerned but, next time that **** spammer gets on the Off Topic Board I have just the experiment for them...

Sky,

Both Infraction and Multi Quote are showing the broken picture cross, so you need to put the button images in the right folder.

Everyone,

Another improvement is that you can now format text, eg, italics just by highlighting it and pressing the normal Windows key combination (in this case, Ctrl+i) :)

There seems to be another change - at least for me using FireFox 2.0 in that all my paragraphs (created by pressing return twice) get scrunched out. Here is another paragraph just to test! Obviously this is not happening for everyone! David

I also use Firefox 2.0. I haven't experienced the paragraph problem, but I've noticed in the past week or two that messages I've read are boldfaced as though unread. I have to check the dates to determine which messages I haven't previously opened.

I use Firefox 1.5.8, which reports itself as the most up-to-date version

David - I'm not seeing any oddities with paraghraph breaks. Is this happening while you type a message, or in messages that you are reading?

Bloom - I've not experienced that issue with incorrectly bolded messages. Maybe something odd happened regarding users' settings when I changed over. Is it still happening from one visit to the next?

Sky, I type my message, with two carriage returns to signify a paragraph break (or the break before my signature) and everything looks fine until I view the result! Just to demonstrate - here is another paragraph. It does not happen if I type into HOTMAIL, for example. David

Yes. At 10 PM EST the following three messages were in bold: Hold on tight if you catch this train!, To Sky: Changes on this board and Planned accident question. I wrote down the time on each, then opened and read them. After reading them, all three were in changed to lightface. I exited the board, then logged in again an hour later at 11 PM EST. All three messages were in bold again, but the times were unchanged and there were no new replies. If I'm the only one reporting this problem, Sky, don't waste any time on it. It's just a minor annoyance that I can easily work around.

Sky, Is there any possibility that the new software has picked up some random settings that account for Bloom's problem and mine? Is it possible to set something (that I could therefore unset) that would remove paragraphs? I always write with paragraphs - just as I add punctuation. LOL - maybe you should add some code to randomly misspell some words, lowercase everything, and add a few other grammatical goofs - then everyone's posts would appear equal! David

David,

I just took a quick look on the vBulletin.com community forum and some other people have had similar (but not identical) problems with line breaks.

One thing you can try is to click on "user CP" at the top of the page, then click on "edit options" and way down at the bottom of that page, under "miscellaneous options" try changing the Message Editor Interface to a different option and saving.

This may or may not help!!!! :p

::EDIT::

I found a more significant discussion on those same forums, that relates EXACTLY to your problem. Check out this thread (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=160817&highlight=paragraph+problem).

This message and the two above it were emboldened (Oooh Sand, Mr 'Orne) when I looked at it (though I think some in light have had entries since I looked last). But when I came out, all three had changed to light. To be honest I do consider it the End of Civilisation as We Know It worthy of announcement in the Daily Mail and Telegraph but if somebody is noticing such things, I might as well stick my oar in and stir it about a bit.

OMG! I've just tried it!!!

Good job I didn't hit the Add Infraction button for Ger as a test - the only option Sky has set up is an instant permanent ban for spammers. You don't know how close you came by accident, Ger! :faint: And, boy, would I have been embarrassed! :whoops:

Anyway, the two latest spammers on the Off Topic Board have been instantly consigned to outer oblivion...

That shows another missing button image, Sky: as well as Add Infraction and Multi-Quote showing the broken picture cross, so does Given Infraction, leaving at least 3 button images to be put in the right folder on the server.

Kate,

This is a test.

If it keeps the paragraphs then thanks for the help, and the answer is to press Ctrl-F5 to flush out some stale javascript.

Oh well, here goes,

Thanks to Kate via David for the Ctrl-F5 cure for Firefox. Although I didn't have the paragraph problem, I had a problem when trying to type a message and the edit box was unwritable unless I changed edit mode, and Ctrl-F5 cured that problem.

Missing buttons (e.g. multi-quote) are fixed now.

I still don't know the cause of some messages being incorrectly marked as new / not new for some members.

Please let me know if there are any more problems.

I don't know what changes have been made between the old and the new. The most obvious one to me is a "Multiple quote" button, which I hestitate to try as I don't know what it's meant to do. When upgrading, most software has a 'read me' file that details the changes, is there one for this?

Boris.

Boris - I shall see if I can find an appropriate document.

The multiquote button allows you to quote more than one pieces of text at once. When you press the multiquote button, it changes to the "selected" state, and when you press it again, it goes back to the "unselected" state. When you then click on "post reply" to post a message, all currently selected quotes are added to your new message.
